VirtualBox Ubuntu 16.04 (and 17.04) guest with bad resolution -

i have installed following iso in virtualbox guest on windows 10 host:

ubuntu-16.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso

edit: looks same happens 17.04.

the host is:

microsoft windows [version 10.0.15063]

vbox version:

after following normal ubuntu install procedure decided install guest additions, via:

devices -> insert guest cd...

it opened terminal window, installation proceed no-errors , said "press enter close".

after restarting guest os, see , it's possible use keyboard mouse clicks broken!: enter image description here

and solution uninstall guest additions via:

open terminal ctrl + alt + t go mounted additions disk in /media sudo ./vboxlinuxaddtions.run uninstall

does know how fix that? x11 related?

note: i've tried installing guest additions via:

sudo apt-get install ...-dkms

but returned errors in lines of "this module old".

note: i've tried going system -> additional drivers , enabling vbox driver, did not affect resolution problem.

disabling 3d hardware acceleration fixed small screen problem.

power down vm , go settings -> display , uncheck "enable 3d acceleration"

i able run glmark2 on ubuntu guest , seems have decent performance (without swap internal support, is).
